June, July, August Council Meetings – Adult Use Marijuana and Springdale Cinema Apartments

City Council’s moved to it’s Summer schedule for July and August (so just one meeting instead of two each) but still had very active meetings.  Anyone looking for more frequent updates and if you are on Facebook I encourage you to join the Springdale Community Group.  Feel free to tag me in any questions over there too, I try to keep up with it as much as possible.

As for recent meetings, there are two items I wanted to highlight:

  • Adult Use Marijuana
  • Springdale Cinema Apartments

Adult Use Marijuana

In the November 2023 statewide election voters approved Issue 2 which would permit the cultivation, sale, and use of marijuana production for recreational / adult use.  During the May 14th Planning Commission meeting the team approved the referral to City Council to update the City’s zoning code to  accommodate these changes.

Council approved the changes to allow up to 2 licenses for dispensaries in the City in the General Business (GB) and Office Building (OB) zoning districts.  Cultivators / Processors would be restricted to the General Industrial (GI) zoning districts.  We also maintain distance requirements from schools, churches, parks, and public playgrounds.

Since then the State has issued license for 3 locations in Springdale:

  • 12140 Springfield Pike, Cincinnati , OH,45246 (The old Bargo’s bar and grill by the movie theater)
  • 109 W Kemper Road, Springdale , OH,45246 (The strip mall at Kemper and Northland)
  • 925 East Kemper Road, Cincinnati , OH,45246  (Previously a Chili’s restaurant)

Despite the State permitting 3 locations (all subject to change) the local license limit of 2 still stands.

Springdale Cinema Apartments

In the June Planning Commission meeting a recommendation to update the land use was updated / rezoned from General Industry (GI) to a Planned Unit Development (PUD) and specifications added to allow a new apartment and town home development.  The Array apartments across Route 4 have proven to be very popular quickly reaching 90+% occupancy.  This development is by the same developers.
