Anyone looking for more frequent updates and if you are on Facebook I encourage you to join the Springdale Community Group. Feel free to tag me in any questions over there too, I try to keep up with it as much as possible.
As for recent meetings, there are two items I wanted to highlight:
- New Ambulance
- Safer Streets Study
- Mall Redevelopment Update
New Ambulance
Working with City Administration the City Council Finance Committee requested legislation for the purchase of a new ambulance for our Fire Department. Lead time on these specialized vehicles (built on a Ford F-550 4×4 diesel chassis) is nearly 2 years!!! Looking at our current fleet and use this is the right time to start that order (ahead of a know price increase coming after the new year). Starting now locks in the price – which uses the State’s pre-negotiated collective pricing of $362,830. The good news is we do not pay the total until delivery so this will need to be budgeted going forward.
Safer Streets Study
In 2023 Springdale was awarded a Federal grant of $114,563 through the Safe Streets and Roads for All program to review our road network and develop a safety action plan that would look at vehicle and pedestrian safety related to our roads and crossings. The grant would coevr 80% of the study with the remaining costs ($28,641) paid by the City. This study is a needed component for future grants requests to address issues – the short of it, this study will both help improve safety and is expected to more than pay for itself with even the smallest updates. The study is expected to be complete by the end of August, 2025. If you want to read more on the SS4A program you can find that here.
Mall Redevelopment Update
In November and December there has been significant movement on the Mall redevelopment. I will be putting together a separate update on the work being done there rather than indie one of these regular meeting updates – stay tuned for that.
